Client Issue

Deloitte MCS Limited undertook a programme of Assessment Centres for a major employer within the public sector in Northern Ireland.  Over a period of ten years, approximately 10,000 candidates went through this process. As part of a varied Assessment Centre, every candidate had to undertake a series of roleplay simulations to identify and assess applicant performance against the competencies required for the role of trainees.

Requirement

The client needed a company that could resource, schedule and manage up to 18 roleplayers every day for two to three different venues in Northern Ireland and for between six and nine weeks at a time, up to twice annually.  This meant providing between five hundred to a thousand actor days over the year.  It was extremely important that the roleplayers were consistent in their character portrayals to provide assessors with a level playing field with which to assess applicant performance.

Solution

The first part of the project was to identify suitable actors, ensuring they fitted the profiles of the characters and encourage realistic simulations.

  • After the initial screening process, the best suited actors were identified for interview.
  • A team of approximately fifty actors were assembled.
  • RoleplayUK devised and facilitated the resulting training. The successful shortlist of actors then attended a training day to practice the scenarios they would be involved in.
  • Actors were then allocated their roles for the project. 
  • The project was managed by a Roleplayer Managers using our bespoke Roleplayer Management System (RMS) to help support them.
  • Regular contact with the client ensured that everything was dealt with quickly and effectively.
  • An out of hours service ensured that support and reinforcement was available should the client need any assistance throughout the project.
  • An ongoing programme of recruitment was undertaken to maintain the quality of the actor pool.

Impact & Result

Over a period of ten years RoleplayUK provided over eight thousand actor days to support this project helping the client to recruit over 4000 trainees within this period.
