Sophie's Story – Episode 4
Just on the way back from my recruitment day with RoleplayUK. Really enjoyed it. Found lots of it quite challenging as well! Wow, I really hope it works out now. Feel excited about the potential work and using my acting skills in a new way. And I’ve learned loads already in the space of a day. Marcus, the guy leading the session, really knew his stuff – took us through all the elements of the work and talked about personality types, communication styles and behaviours that we’d need to be able to demonstrate in the roleplays.
Then he put us through our paces. We had to play loads of different characters, making it as real as possible. We had to learn a brief really quickly then improvise around it. It was all quite high pressure. Fun though. Marcus said that, as well as recruiting and training new actors for other peoples’ training he also designed and delivered RoleplayUK’s own training courses using actors. Sounded really interesting. That training side of RoleplayUK is called ‘the be. group’ or something. Stands for ‘behaviour engineering’ apparently! Or maybe they were called ‘the be. programmes’? Can’t remember. I’ll have a look online.
Anyway, I didn’t realise there were two sides to the business: The agency is one part, where RoleplayUK supply roleplay actors to businesses and other training companies. That’s where most of the work is improvised, based around a brief provided by the client (see? I was listening!). And then there’s the learning and development side which delivers these high-impact behavioural modules with scripted scenes focusing on things like customer service, or leadership, or management…stuff like that. It’d be great to get involved in all that. Just have to wait and see now, whether they’ll take me on….
